More than anything, I want our children to be well-acquainted with Sacred Scripture. I really wanted to go beyond the kid's Bibles and story Bibles. I wanted them to know the Bible.. Unfortunately, there are not many resources for Catholic kids!
As my oldest two turned 9 and 10, I decided to just go for it: let's read the Bible to them. We used the Bible in a Year published by the Augustine Institute and, by God's grace, we did it. We read the whole Bible together. As we read, I would do my best to explain the story to them so they could follow the plot.
Each year, we make sure to do something for their faith formation that is richly biblical. The liturgical seasons of the Church provide us with great opportunities to show how the way the Church celebrates and orders life is rooted in sacred Scripture. This has given birth to several projects such as the Jesse Tree for Advent and Lent.
